9 PRINCIPLES OF FENG SHUI – TIPS TO IMPLEMENTING THEM - MyWaynesHome

Although it is an ancient Chinese practice that has been used around the world for centuries, Feng Shui became a popular trend in the Western World in the mid-2000’s, guiding interior design and furniture styles. So, what is Feng Shui philosophy? In today’s post, we will review the 9 principles of Feng Sui and its effects on our lives and homes.

WHAT IS FENG SHUI?

Feng Shui is a pseudoscientific traditional practice that originated in ancient China rooted in the belief of balancing or harmonizing energies to create peace and energy. The principles of Feng Shui is a kind of order or set of guiding rules that use scientific calculations and the art of balance to improve the vibes in a space and stabilize people with their surrounding environment.

The translation of the term Feng Shui is literally “wind-water”. Feng Shui implementations discuss architecture in the forms of “invisible forces,” or qi, which bind the universal energies, earth, and humanity together.

While it sounds a little complicated, today, people who practice Feng Shui, design their living spaces that offer tranquility and comfort. Let’s take a look at some of the principles of Feng Shui and how you can implement them into your home design.

9 PRINCIPLES OF FENG SHUI

According to Fend Shui, there are two types of energies — positive and negative. Positive energy (vital qi) is everywhere. And, the aim of Feng Shui is to benefit from vital qi by avoiding blocking the energy. Here are the 9 principles of catching the right energy flow and creating a peaceful and tranquil space.

1 – PLACING OBJECTS CORRECTLY

The placement of objects in the room should be done to optimize positive energy flow. Qi includes four different types of energies which come for the four different directions.

  • North – nutritious energy,
  • South – booster energy,
  • East – wisdom energy (also good-luck qi),
  • West – destructive energy ( bad-luck qi)..

2- HARMONY

Feng Shui is not only related to good luck, or positive energy, but also with the balance between opposite energies; yin and yang. Yin is the negative way, or effects, of elements. And yang is the positive, opposite to the Yin. The balance between yin and yang represents the completeness of the universe. In order to follow Feng Shui, you should pay attention to the yin-yang analysis of your room. Check the harmony of your space by looking at;

  • Size of the room,
  • The layout of the room,
  • Sunny and dark spots,
  • Moist and dryness,
  • Bright and dull colors,
  • Solid and liquid materials.
Too much yin results in bad luck by blocking positive energy flow. On the other hand, too much yang throws off the energies and disrupts harmony. Finding the perfect balance between yin and yang is the key to optimizing energy.

3- FLOW

The key to a happy and healthy life is the flow of the qi. Qi normally flows in the empty spaces. But, if the flow is interrupted somehow, everyone in the space will feel it. When qi is blocked, you may feel tired, exhausted, or even become ill. For qi flow interruption in the workplace, it may result in making less money and problems with personal relations.

4- POSITIVE DRAW

Qi moves through five elements — earth, fire, metal, water, and wood. The relationship between these elements is very important according to Feng Shui. According to the Chinese, everything in the universe belongs to these five elements. Elements of objects and directions of a place should not conflict with each other.

5- VALUE OF EVERY OBJECT

Feng Shui requires organizing the space with the help of five element’s relationship between each other. Everything is related to these elements. Qi exists in these elements in different forms. There are two different types of relationships between the elements. First, the creative cycle of the elements; Fire creates the soil of the earth, the soil contains metal, metal holds the water, water feeds the tree wood, and the tree fuels the fire. Second, the destructive cycle of the elements; Fire melts metal, metal cuts wood, wood consumes the soil, soil drinks the water, and water extinguishes the fire. Each object in the room should balance the elements to create harmony.

Balancing and healing qi suggests that each object should serve a purpose and bring joy. To test this, hold each object in the room and if it does not bring you joy, remove it, leaving behind only those objects that have value and purpose. Being surrounded by the things we like will increase the effects of the elements from which they are made.

6- ORGANIZATION AND ORDER

Feng Shui has a strong focus on order and organization. Look at everything in your house, detect all the unnecessary things, and get rid of them to reduce clutter. This will make you freer and improve qi. Fix broken things that you don’t want to get rid of and clean things that you keep. Consider every paper, and get rid of everything that has no purpose.

Clean your house. Every inch of it. Walk through your clean and neat house and see if your perspective and energy have changed. Everything you see should make you feel at peace. A clean and neat house is also the key to a clean and neat mind.

7- COLORFUL AND ENERGETIC DECOR

Each color and element exudes energy. To optimize a particular area of your life, refer to the Feng Shui Bagua map. By combining the right elements and colors, you can improve particular energies.

8- BRING THE NATURAL INSIDE

One of the main purposes of Feng Shui is to bring the earth’s natural elements into our homes to improve energy. By including natural woods and accenting with plants, you can enjoy the peace and tranquility that nature offers, inside your home.

9- SYMBOLISM

Each object has a purpose and is a symbol of the universe. Crystal spheres, mirrors, wind chimes, plants, bamboo flutes, heavy materials like sculptures or rocks, colors, lamps, and appliances are the healers of Feng Shui energy.

These are the general guiding principles of Feng Shui. If you want to incorporate these principles into your home decor, consider upgrading your furniture to something that supports qi and promotes optimal positive energy flow.
